Bright Ideas: GPs together building a Community of Practice

Session 4: Formative Assessment

Subdeanery invite you to attend our brand new ‘Bright Ideas’ Initiative – A monthly online lunchtime session for GP Tutors/teaching practices (1pm-1.45pm) on the last Tuesday of every month to begin in Jan 2021. These sessions will be themed and facilitated by tutors who will share their ‘bright ideas’ in an informal, conversational setting. The aim of these sessions is to foster an online Community of Practice of GP Educators, engaging in a process of collective learning in a shared domain of human endeavour: GP Education

Formative assessment refers to a range of formal and informal educational practices aimed at leading students towards effective learning. These practices include ongoing students’ monitoring, to identify strengths and weaknesses in their learning, identifying target areas that need work, and directing them towards addressing these “gaps”, through effective feedback. In this session, we will discuss formative assessment practices and techniques, identifying and exploring what works best in a clinical workplace learning environment.
